Arrive at Marina by 14.00. Prepare to board the vessel and once settled in and the Captain has been briefed cast off and head downstream passing through Lock 11, the last opening is 4pm so don’t be late. Moor at one of the recommended sites and enjoy a BBQ on board.
For meals on board everyone will be asked to pitch in preparation, cooking and cleaning up. This simply adds to the camaraderie of the program.
Overnight: River Mooring
Depart the mooring early, breakfast on board as we travel downstream to Coomealla which is about 3 hours cruise time from Lock 11. Mooring is available at the Coomealla Golf Club so it is just a short walk to the course. This championship layout also offers prolific wildlife and a great setting alongside the Mighty Murray River. A courtesy bus operates to and from the mooring so dinner tonight will be at the club before a nightcap on the top deck.
Overnight: Mooring Coomealla Golf Club
Golfers are transferred by coach to Red Cliffs Golf Club, established in 1925 and only ever maintained by volunteers
Non Golfers cruise downstream, en route we leave the Murray River and enter the Darling with its great history and legends from times past
Mooring will be adjacent to Downtown Riverside Park within easy walking distance of the village centre. Dine on board or at the Royal Hotel.
Leave the Darling and return to the Murray heading upstream, pass under the Abbotsford Bridge see houseboats of all shapes and sizes moored along the river as we return to Coomealla where one round of golf is never enough so it is time to challenge this riverside layout.
Overnight: Coomealla Golf Club Moorings
Back on the river, cruise upstream for about 4 hours, pausing at Merbien Ramp for the golfers to travel by bus to the nearby Mildura Golf Resort which has been in operation for over 100 years. Following golf transfer back to the houseboat for dinner on board, at Ornamental Gardens sunsets can be spectacular. Non golfers stay on board, assist with the lock transit before mooring at Ornamental Gardens.
Overnight: Ornamental Gardens Mildura
Golfers are transferred to Riverside Golf Club by bus, for a round at this friendly but tight layout with many river gums to catch a wayward ball. Non golfers cruise upstream passing spectacular homes on the river banks. After golf, cross the river and moor at the Gol Gol Hotel well known locally for its good wine list, great food and friendly staff.
Overnight: Gol Gol Hotel Moorings
Following a leisurely breakfast retrace the river downstream to moor at Mildura Town Basin. Travel by bus to the Mildura Golf Resort to test your skill against this excellent layout. After golf, transfer back to the boats with time to pop into town. Dinner on the last night is included and will be at Stefanos Brewery or similar, a cash bar operates.
Overnight: Ornamental Gardens, Mildura
Sadly we must disembark the pleasure craft by 08.30. Check you have left nothing behind but take with you a massive bundle of memories.
Wendy & Ray
Hi Fred, thank you so much for a wonderful week on the Murray. Ray and I were looking forward to doing something totally different and we were not disappointed. You certainly organized everything very well. Look forward to meeting again.
We are now back in NZ with the wonderful memories of our week with you in the Barossa and Mildura area.
On behalf of the group, thank you for your superb organisation and guidance during our time together. Nothing seemed too much trouble and are very grateful for the way you facilitated such an easy, relaxed trip on the houseboat.
Please keep us informed if you are offering any similar trips next year.
Lynda & Bob
Thanks again for a fantastic holiday….luv’d it. Still to have a go at fishing locally & yet to catch my first fish…. Luv’d everything about the holiday from the houseboat to the experience of country life & the issues that some of those clubs are experiencing.
Wentworth was great…Heather & I played with 2 locals who were so proud to have us play with them & to share the stories of the club. Lots of fun. We enjoyed the trip up to Broken Hill afterwards … What an interesting place.
Where to next? Looking forward to another journey.
WOW! What a fantastic trip! Cruising the Murray River in the beautiful “Extreme Indulgence”, playing golf on great courses along the Murray. Meeting our fellow travellers/golfers was one of the many highlights. The weather was spectacular, the company was fun, the golf was great. The scenery was breathtaking – waking up with the birds and gorgeous sunrises was wonderful! Thank you Fred and Golf & Gourmet for giving me and my fellow traveller Carolyn, the opportunity to partake in this wonderful adventure. We had a blast with our “Thelma & Louise Road Trip”, that even included Brad Pitt (though not the original one). Anyone who wants to have a great experience cruising, socialising, golfing, dining & having a great time, you MUST go on the Murray River Golf & Gourmet Cruise if the opportunity presents itself.
Ros and Alan
Alan and I drove through to Canberra yesterday after being sustained with coffee and banana bread with Thelma and Louise at Hay for morning tea. What a great trip we had together – it will remain as great memories of a beautiful locations, indulgent food and accommodation and the best of comrades. Thank you all.
Trish and Laurie
Thank you for a wonderful week of golf, food and fun. I put on 3 kg in weight so that will tell you how much I enjoyed it. Laurie refuses to tell me how much weight he put on. But seriously we had a truly marvellous time and yesterday I told all the ladies about what a great time we had. Of course the ladies who had been earlier this year all came up to me and asked all about it and that I give you their regards.
We will definitely keep your trips in our minds. We are busy until the middle of the year, but if you could send me your list of planned trips, that would be great.
Thank you once again for a truly wonderful holiday and great golfing.
Wow, thank you Fred, I did think it was a good photo of everyone though (sorry to the other photographers).
Can I also say what a great week we had and I especially had a lovely relaxing time and it was great to enjoy it with really nice people.
Fred, I think I will give the shirt to Rod for Christmas so could I please have a Blue one in Size XXL.
Thanks again and safe travelling.
